Save cost by using the right lubricant for your machinery

Save cost by using the right lubricant for your machinery

For mining industry in North America only, the potential savings could reach up to US$29 million from the impact of using the correct lubricant for machinery.

A recent industrial research found that 96% of mining companies experiencing unplanned equipment shutdowns in the last 3 years. with half of the acknowledging this due the incorrect management & selection of their lubricants. This is having a direct financial impact, at a time when cost competitiveness is a priority for mining companies.

Renée Power, the Shell Global Sector Manager for Mining, said; “40percent of the companies we surveyed estimated that they had incurred costs of at […]

Indonesia’s new mining rules to improve the economy in 2017

Indonesia’s new mining rules to improve the economy in 2017

Indonesian government has issued a new regulation that will allow miners to export as long as they show progress toward building smelters in a five-year period. Investors and analysts had expected Indonesia to continue allowing exports of mineral concentrates, but the government surprised markets by allowing limited amounts of nickel ore and bauxite.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan said the new rules were aimed at improving the economy and creating jobs. The restrictions had hit exports and revenues from mining.

The development will come as some relief to China—the world’s largest metals producer—as Indonesia was the largest supplier of nickel ore […]

Bringing the benefits of mobile computing to the mining industry

Bringing the benefits of mobile computing to the mining industry

The mobile technology is becoming increasingly important in the mining sector.  The challenge is that mining environment isn’t always conducive to the needs of sensitive equipment like smartphone or tablet.

Moreover creating an infrastructure that supports mobile technology in a mine holds many challenges, but they are challenges that are being met.

Mining is an industry in transition and technology is increasingly being employed in order to meet efficiency goals.

This is a significant period in the history of mining, an industry that has historically enjoyed high margins. Due to the increasing challenges in finding and extracting natural resources the industry is now […]

Do you know why are almost every heavy equipment yellow in colour?

Do you know why are almost every heavy equipment yellow in colour?

It has been an industry wide practice to adopt yellow as the primary colour of heavy equipment.
However this isn’t the norm and there is no standard requiring this to be the case.

There are plenty of manufacturers that have distinct colours for their heavy machinery/equipment.
Hitachi, for instance, paints their excavators ‘Safety orange’.

Yellow is primarily treated as the color of caution and visibility. Since all the heavy machinery which are employed in the mines or construction sites must be handled with utmost care, they are provided with yellow colour.

The point is – there has […]

Heavy Equipment for Construction.

Heavy Equipment for Construction.

In the case of huge construction projects, proper use of the appropriate equipment contributes to economy, quality, safety, speed and timely completion of a project. Equipment are use for highway projects, irrigation, buildings, power projects etc. 15-30% of total project cost has been accounted towards equipment and machinery.

Classification of Construction Equipment

Earth-moving equipment
Hauling equipment
Hoisting equipment
Conveying equipment
Aggregate and concrete production equipment
Pile-driving equipment
Tunneling and rock drilling equipment
Pumping and dewatering equipment

Do you now how many types Heavy equipment that are used in excavations?

Do you now how many types Heavy equipment that are used in excavations?

Any operation that involves digging material could be called an excavation, we have listed equipment here that is most often used to dig more size limited excavations.

Backhoe loader

A backhoe loader, also called a loader backhoe or tractor backhoe, is a heavy equipment vehicle that consists of a tractor fitted with a bucket on the front and a small backhoe on the back. Due to its relatively small size and versatility, backhoe loaders are very common in urban construction projects. These machines travel on rubber tires, and can actually travel at speeds of approx. 25 […]

The 2016 IoT Landscape.

The 2016 IoT Landscape.

Matt Turck, a venture capitalist at FirstMark, has mapped out the Internet of Things Landscape for 2016.

Matt notes “The IoT today is largely at this inflection point where “the future is already here but it is not evenly distributed”. From ingestibles, wearables, AR/VR headsets to connected homes and factories, drones, autonomous cars and smart cities, a whole new world (and computing paradigm) is emerging in front of us. But as of right now, it just feels a little patchy, and it doesn’t always look good, or work great – yet.”

The chart above is great, […]

Differences between Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Computerized Maintenance and Management System (CMMS)

Differences between Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Computerized Maintenance and Management System (CMMS)

There is a common perception that Enterprise Asset Management solution (EAM) is more a financial application, while Computerized Maintenance and Management System (CMMS) is more an operational application, since it tracks repairs, parts, costs of parts and maintenance at the equipment level. But it is too simplified and a bit misleading. The fact is both solutions track the financial and operational information. They are different in scope.

Differences between EAM and CMMS:

The Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solution organizes the physical and fiscal information of enterprise assets on one platform, follows the work flows associated with managing assets, […]
